Someone going through a catastrophic illness needs to put all their effort into getting well and the extra burden of expenses can be overwhelming. Artassistance mission is to help with the financial burden so the ill can focus on getting well.
Why am I doing this?
My mother was recently diagnosed with stage 3 anal cancer (the same one Farrah Fawcett had). Unfortunately at this time my mother doesn't have insurance. Of course, this is making things a bit more difficult. Luckly she got great help from the hospital and is going through the steps to make sure she can get the chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She is getting help from social workers and they are helping to apply for state medicaid coverage. She has a short term disability plan from work and she is going through the process of making sure she gets those benefits. The social workers are helping with applying for social security disability incase this becomes a long drawn out treatment. However, in the short term, she has no income coming in and the medical bills are piling up.
I am doing my best to help her with some expenses while taking her to the doctor to get treatment, run errands and just be there during all of this. I wish I could just take care of her alone but my income is not enough. Luckly she has some great friends who have bee pitching in to support. I am an artist and I do some graphic and web design. I want to use my skills as an artist for a larger cause. So I am making a pledge while she is fighting cancer I will be making sure all of the money I make through the sale of my art and the money I make from graphic and web design goes to help her with living expences and bills.
