What is the mission of Artassistance?
The mission of Artassistance is to help uninsured help pay daily expenses and medical bills. Someone going through a catastrophic illness needs to put all their effort into getting well and the extra burden of expenses can be overwhelming. Artassistance tries to help with the financial burden so the ill can focus on getting well.
Where is Artassistance?
Right now it is operated out my bedroom in Collinsville, IL (a suburb of St. Louis). However, to participate with donations or purchases, you don't have to live in the St. Louis area.
Why did I create Artassistance?
My mother ha recently been diagnosed with stage 3 anal cancer. At the time of her diagnosis she was uninsured. She can't work and she is dealing with the loads and loads of paperwork and red-tape that makes getting treated more difficult. She is working on getting her short-term disability from work, getting on Medicaid from the state. All of this in addition to making and going to doctor and oncologists to make appointments to get treated.
Unfortunatley, bills and rent (or mortgage) payments do not stop during this time. Also, a person doesn't stop eating either. I created Artassistance as a way I can help her using the skills and resources I have.
